The 40 nations will be divided into eight men’s and eight women’s groups of five nations each and will compete in a group qualification league, followed by a round-of-24 tournament for the top three in each group. The opening ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on May 17 at BEXCO Stadium 1 under the theme ‘Bring Your Dreams to Busan’.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon, co-chairman of the tournament organizing committee, Yoo Seung-min, president of the Korea Table Tennis Association, ITTF President Petra Söhring, and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon will be in attendance .The opening ceremony will include a variety of media performances and fusion Korean music performances to maximize the unique characteristics of Korea and the value of table tennis .The opening ceremony will be followed by the Korean matches. “As this is the first tournament to be held in Busan, Korea, we will make every effort with the organizers and related organizations to make this tournament a success,” said Mayor Park. “Through this tournament, we will showcase Busan as a true ‘global sports city’ and even a ‘global hub city’ to the world. “The ITTF SUMMIT and the International Table Tennis Federation Presidential Youth and Life Sports Competition will also be held in conjunction with the tournament.
