This season, men’s professional volleyball has seen the growth of attackers born in 1999.
Kim Ji-han (Woori Card), Lim Sung-jin (KEPCO), and Lim Dong-hyuk (Korean Air) have shed the “next generation” label and become the undisputed aces of their respective teams in the 2023-2024 season.
When the three teams meet, attention naturally turns to the battle of egos between the three players.
Such was the case in the KEPCO-Woori Card game at Suwon Gymnasium in Gyeonggi-do, Gyeonggi-do, on Nov. 16.
The winner was Kim Ji-han.
Kim scored a game-high 25 kills (56.76% attack success rate), outperforming the foreign players on both teams, to lead the team to a 3-1 (27-25 25-21 22-25 25-22) set win.
Lim Sung-jin also scored 17 points with a high attack success rate (60.71%), but was unable to prevent her team from losing.
“Watching Sungjin play so well, I felt like I didn’t want to lose,” Kim reflected after the match.

“I think (I’ll) get a few votes this round,” he said after the team’s victory over Korea Electric Power.
Kim Ji-han laughed and said, “There’s one more person who shouldn’t lose, so I’ll have to work hard.”
As of today, Lim Dong-hyuk is fourth in scoring (94 points) and first in attack success rate (60.14%) in Round 3.
Kim Ji-han is seventh in scoring (77 points) and sixth in attack success rate (55.08 percent).
Despite his confidence, Kim is hard on himself.
“In the middle of the game, I didn’t think I was doing well because I made mistakes, so I was surprised when I saw my record after the game,” he said, adding, “I want to be a player who has no weaknesses in all areas: offense, defense, and toss.”
“Specifically, if I can fix the part where I’m (a beat late) when I hit the ball, I think I can do a better job,” he explained.
On the team’s league-leading performance, he said, “I think if we get complacent, we’ll quickly fall behind. I need to do a better job to maintain our performance,” he said.
