We aspire to our professional resorts in the region, including one of the largest assets in the West.”

According to a report by Inside Asian Gaming, the Connecticut-based company has teamed up with its new colleague, Osidori International Development Godogasha, to participate in the latest Request for Proposal (RFP) phase of the plan to bring Las Vegas-style development to Nagasaki Prefecture.

Although most gambling is now illegal in Japan, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s coalition government passed a bill in July 2018 authorizing about 126 million residents to three integrated casino resorts with hotels, exhibition facilities and a wide gaming floor. The source elaborated that Nagasaki Prefecture wants the planned facility to be on 74 acres adjacent to Huistenbos Theme Park to help boost the local economy through improving tourism levels.

However, Inside Asian Gaming explained that the candidate community was first obliged to select a foreign company to operate these future venues before submitting completed licensing applications to the Federal Selectors panel before the April 2022 deadline. Nagasaki Prefecture is home to about 1.3 people and began the three-week RFP phase of its casino plan on Jan. 7, after which it reportedly received final bids from seven companies, including those led by Oshodori Godo.

Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment is the U.S. federal-recognized casino operations arm of the Mohegan Tribe and is already responsible for a large portfolio of gambling-friendly assets, including the flagship Mohegan Sun facility in eastern Connecticut. The company also hopes to premiere its huge Inspire brand development in Greece and South Korea before the end of the decade, and is now reportedly actively advancing as an operating partner in Nagasaki Prefecture.

Mario Kontomerkos, chief executive of Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, used an official press release Wednesday to declare that his company was originally targeting Japan’s interest in the northern island of Hokkaido, but he then declared that the operator was forced to abandon the area and now develops a world-class resort to allow jurisdiction to become a “premium destination and top residential.”

“We are honored to partner with Oshidori International Development Godogaisha and capitalize on the team’s unparalleled experience in this integrated casino resort license bid, one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. Japan offers important development opportunities that will benefit Kyushu’s economy. Our growth strategy considered important cross-marketing opportunities between Project Inspire in Korea and Kyushu in Japan.
