The Samsung Lions snapped the leading LG Twins’ eight-game winning streak thanks to a come-from-behind home run by Kang Min-ho in the eighth inning.
Samsung won 5-4 at home against LG in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Thursday.
Last-place Samsung has a record of 38 wins, 1 loss, and 54 ties. LG (56-2-34), on the other hand, saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end but remained atop the standings.
Samsung’s veteran catcher Kang Min-ho hit a game-winning two-run single in the eighth inning with the score tied at 3-4. Left-hander Lee Seung-hyun, who pitched one scoreless inning in the eighth, earned the save.
For LG, Lee Woo-chan, who came in to protect the first run in the eighth inning, took the loss.
LG took the early lead. After a leadoff double by Hong Chang-ki and a single by Shin Min-jae, Kim Hyun-soo drew a walk and scored the first run on a wild pitch.
With runners on first and third, Austin Dean singled to score one more run and give LG a two-run lead.
Samsung quickly answered back. In the bottom of the third, Kim Sung-yoon led off with a walk, stole second base on a wild pitch, and scored on Kim Hyun-joon’s RBI single. In the fourth inning, Kang Min-ho hit his 13th solo home run of the season off Lee Ji-gang to make it 2-2.
After the middle inning, the game became intense. In the fifth inning, LG took the lead again after Park Hae-min doubled, Hong Chang-ki reached first on an automatic high four, and Shin Min-jae followed with a single to left.
The lead didn’t last long. In the seventh inning, Samsung 사설토토 tied the game. After a leadoff single by Kang Kang-ul, Kim Tae-hoon laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Lee Jae-hyun singled to bring Kang home.
Leader LG answered right back. In the top of the eighth inning, veteran Kim Hyun-soo hit a solo home run off Lee Seung-hyun. The score was 4-3 in favor of LG.
In the end, Samsung came from behind to take the lead. In the bottom of the eighth inning, with runners on first and third, Kang Min-ho hit a two-run double.
With the win in hand, Samsung brought in Oh Seung-hwan to close out the ninth and he retired the next three batters to secure the win for Samsung.
