The world record for men’s discus throwing has been broken for the first time in 38 years.
Lithuania’s Mikolas Alegna set a new world record by shooting 74 meters 35 in men’s discus throw at the Oklahoma throwing competition held at Lemona in Washington County, Oklahoma on Wednesday (Korea time). This is a new world record taken at his fifth attempt out of six attempts.
The previous record was 74m08 by Jurgen Schulte of Germany in 1986. The record was made 16 years before Alekna, born in 2002, was born.
Alenak’s father Birgilius was a gold medalist in men’s discus throwing at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2004 Athens Olympics. In particular, his father Birgilius’ best record of 73 meters was second to Schulte before Alenak set a new world record.
Alenak set a personal best of 72m21 in the first period. He then set another personal best of 72m89 in the third period, and set a world record of 74m35 in the fifth period. “At first, it was measured at 74m41 and later revised,” the IAAF added.
