Jeju Food & Wine Festival to showcase island’s gastronomic treasures

The 2024 Jeju Food & Wine Festival (JFWF), a flagship event showcasing te region’s culinary heritage, will take place across the island from May 9 to 18.During the 10-day festival, marking its ninth year, world-renowned chefs will team up with local gourmet restaurants and culinary school students to create new recipes with local ingredients.This year’s event promises to be a culinary extravaganza, bringing together 18 of the most celebrated chefs from Korea and beyond. These talented individuals will unleash their artistry, transforming Jeju’s exceptional ingredients into unforgettable dishes. Michelin-starred chefs such as Kang Min-chul of Kangminchul Retaurant, Kwon Woo-joong of Kwonsooksoo, Kim Do-yun of Yun Seoul and Lee Choong-hu of Zero Complex will grace the event with their expertise.Jeju Gourmet Spoon 200 will unveil a curated list of 200 must-visit restaurants on the island, which will offer visitors exclusive benefits and special menus throughout the festival. What is notably from this year is an exclusive wine dinner hosted by James Suckling, one of the most prominent wine critics in the world. This special event, on May 17, will provide a six-course menu paired with wines recommended by Suckling, who himself will also be present to introduce the wines. The dinner is a collaborative effort between Albert Leung, head chef of James Suckling Wine Central restaurant in Hong Kong; Kim Seung-ryun of Milieu, Cho Hee-suk of Korean Food Space and Takuro Osawa of Pierre Hermé.In addition to the wine dinner, the festival also offers a wine fair where visitors can sample dozens of wines that have received high ratings from Suckling.
