’15 wins’ Kwak Bin, Won Tae-in tied for 1st with multiple wins

The Doosan Bears have clinched fourth place in the Korean Baseball Organization’s regular season and will host the wild-card deciding game at home.

Doosan defeated the visiting Lotte Giants 4-3 in a thrilling game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Sajik Stadium in Busan on Saturday.

With the win, Doosan finished the regular season with 73 wins, two draws and 68 losses, finishing in fourth place regardless of the outcome of their one remaining game.

Doosan will face either the KT Wiz or SSG Landers for fifth place in the wild card deciding game on October 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.

If Doosan wins, it will advance directly to the semifinals, while the fifth-place team will play the second game of the wild-card deciding series on Oct. 3.

Doosan scored three runs in the first inning on back-to-back singles by Jung Soo-bin and Kim Jae-ho to put runners on first and third, followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Kim Jae-hwan and Yang Seok-hwan and a ground ball by Kang Seung-ho.

In the sixth inning, Heo Kyung-min singled to center field with the bases loaded to make it 4-0.

Doosan scored a run in the eighth inning to make it 4-1 and closed to within 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth when Kim Taek-yeon drew two walks and gave up a single to left to Jeon Jun-woo.

But Kim struck out Kang Seung-koo and got Oh Sun-jin to fly out to second base to end the threat.

Doosan starter Kwak Bin pitched six innings of four-hit, seven-strikeout ball to earn his 15th win of the season and move into a tie for first place with Won Tae-in (Samsung Lions) for most wins.

LOTTE switch-hitter Victor Reyes, who is challenging for the KBO’s all-time record for most hits in a season, added two more hits to give him 198 with three games remaining, three shy of the record (201) set by Seo Gun-chang (now with the Kia Tigers) in 2014.

SSG swept the NC Dinos 10-1 in Changwon to move into a tie with fifth-place KT with 70 wins and two draws.

Both kt and SSG are tied with two games remaining, and those results will determine the winner of the fight for fifth place.

KT will face the Kiwoom Heroes on the 27th and 28th, while SSG will face the Hanwha Eagles on the 28th and Kiwoom on the 30th.

In the event of a tie, KT and SSG will play a single-elimination ranking game to determine which team will play in the wild card decider.

SSG took the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Han Yoo-seom and scored four runs in the seventh inning to win the game.

With runners on first and second, Choi Jung-jeong hit a two-run double to left-center field, Guillermo Heredia followed with a single to left, and Han Yoo-seom, the game-winning hit, hit a two-run double to center field to extend the lead to 5-0.

SSG pounded the white-flagged NC for five runs in the eighth inning.

Choi Po-jeong had three hits and four RBIs, while Eredia and Han Yoo-seom also had three hits and combined for four RBIs in the win.

SSG starting pitcher Roenis Elias pitched a stellar seven innings, striking out 10 and giving up four hits and no walks to earn another valuable victory for his team as they continue their fall baseball campaign.

At Jamsil Stadium, the third-place LG Twins, who reached the semifinals, smiled in their final home game of the regular season with a 6-3 victory over the Kiwoom Heroes.

LG catcher Lee Joo-heon, a 2022 third-round pick out of Seongnam High School, went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in his first career start.

After hitting a sharp line drive to left field with two outs in the second inning for an RBI double in his first at-bat with the first team, Lee lined a single through the infield with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Shortly afterward, pinch-hitter Austin Dean hit a ground ball that made it a 2-1 game.

Lee didn’t stop there, as he added another RBI in the top of the seventh inning with a double down the left field line.

LG gave up a tying two-run homer to Jang Jae-young in the top of the eighth, but Moon Bo-kyung’s game-winning RBI double, Hong Chang-ki’s infield grounder, and Koo Bon-hyuk’s RBI single in the bottom of the inning sealed the victory.

LG set a new season attendance record with 1.374 million fans this year, surpassing the Lotte Giants (1.381 million) in 2009. 바카라사이트
