Choi Jung-jeong has been hot in exhibition play

SSG Landers center fielder Choi Jung-jeong, who is on pace to break the KBO’s record for most career home runs, has been hot in exhibition play.

Choi went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a home run, a walk and three RBIs in an 11-6 win over the Kiwoom Heroes in the 2024 KBO League exhibition game at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Friday.

Choi has 458 career home runs dating back to last year. With 10 more home runs this season, he will surpass the KBO record for most home runs in a season (467) held by Doosan’s Lee Seung-yeop, the “National Hitter.

Choi has been hitting hot in the exhibition games. He homered in the opening game of the exhibition series against Lotte on April 10. He hit a solo home run off Lotte right-hander Lee In-bok.

He went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI against KT on Nov. 11.

Choi hit a single to left field with runners on first and third in the third inning with the score tied 0-0. It was the game-winning hit that gave new head coach Lee Sung-yong his first win in an exhibition game. SSG went on to win 3-0.

Choi went 100 percent on the day with three hits and one walk in four at-bats, 토토사이트 including a home run and a double. She is now 5-for-6 (11 RBI) with two home runs and five RBI in four games in the tournament.

Kim Hye-sung (second base), Dawson (center field), Kim Hwi-jip (designated hitter), Choi Joo-hwan (first base), Lim Ji-yeol (left field), Kim Dong-heon (catcher), Song Sung-moon (third base), Lee Hyung-jong (right field), and Lee Jae-sang (shortstop) are the starting lineup for Kiwoom. The game was a back-and-forth affair from the start.

Kim Hye-sung singled to right and Dawson walked to put runners on first and second in the first inning. With runners on first and third, Choi Ju-hwan led off the inning with a single up the middle. Kim Dong-heon followed with an RBI single to left to make it 2-0.

SSG answered back in the bottom of the first. One out later, Heredia singled to left and stole second. Choi then hit an RBI single to left to cut the lead to 2-1.

SSG answered back with a five-run second inning. Leadoff hitter Ha Jae-hoon drew a walk and Kim Min-sik singled to right-center to put runners on first and second with no outs. Kim Sung-hyun followed with an RBI single to left, and left fielder Lim Ji-yeol reached on a throwing error to third to put runners on second and third. Park Sung-hyun hit a two-run single to right to make it 4-2.

Heredia singled and Choi walked to load the bases with one out. Han Yoo-seom struck out, but Ko Myung-joon drew a walk to load the bases. Jeon Ui-san was hit by a pitch, allowing the runner from third to score, making the score 6-2.

Kiwoom answered in the top of the third when Choi Ju-hwan hit a Shin Heon-min fastball over the right field wall for a solo home run.

It was his second home run in as many games.

SSG answered in the bottom of the third inning when Heredia took a fastball from Yoon Seok-won for a solo home run. It made it 7-3.

Kiwoom got on the board in the top of the fourth inning against SSG’s Baek Seung-gun, with Lee Hyung-jong leading off with a double to left. Lee Jae-sang followed with a walk, and a pitcher’s walk put runners on second and third. Kim Hye-sung grounded to second, and Lee Hyung-jong was tagged out at home.

With runners on first and second, Dawson lined a single to right, and when right fielder Han Yoo-seom’s throw to third was thrown backward, it scored Kim Hye-sung, who had run to third, to cut the lead to 7-5. With two outs, Kim Hui-jip, Choi Joo-hwan, and Lim Ji-yeol drew consecutive walks to push across three runs to make it 7-6.

SSG responded in the fifth inning with a three-run home run by Choi Jung-jeong. One out later, Park Sung-yi led off with an infield single against Cho Sang-woo and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Choi Jung-jeong hit a seven-pitch, 146-kilometer fastball on a full count over the left-center field fence for a two-run home run. It was a two-run shot to make it 9-6.

SSG added another run in the sixth inning when leadoff hitter Go Myung-joon hit a line drive to center field off Kim Jae-woong, but Dawson, the center fielder, made a jumping catch and the ball hit the ground. It became a triple. Ha scored on Jae-hoon Ha’s RBI single to left to make it 10-6.

SSG started the seventh inning with a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch-hitter Choi Kyung-mo.

Choi stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Kim Chan-hyung made it 11-6 with a sacrifice fly.

Meanwhile, the game took 3 hours and 19 minutes as the two teams exchanged 15 walks and 25 hits. It was almost identical to the previous day’s 3 hours and 22 minutes.

Kiwoom starter Cho Young-gun struggled, allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. Yoon Seok-won pitched 1⅔ innings, giving up one run on three hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Rookie Jeon Jun-pyo pitched well with one inning of scoreless relief, 파워볼실시간 striking out one. Second-year Song Young-jin pitched 1⅓ innings with three strikeouts, Lee Eun-wook pitched one inning with one hit and no walks, and Cho Byung-hyun pitched one inning with one hit and no walks. Lee Ki-soon and Lee Roon each pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
