Romania’s David Popovic (20), who was considered a strong candidate to win, recorded 1:44.53 in first place overall.
Hwang Sun-woo, who won the 200m freestyle champion at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year and the Doha World Aquatics Championships this year, was considered a strong medal candidate heading into the Olympics. Hwang Sun-woo, who easily advanced to the semifinals with a time of 1 minute 46.13 seconds in the morning preliminaries, showed a good performance in the first semifinal group, maintaining the lead until the first 100m, but dropped to 5th place in the first group after his pace suddenly dropped in the
second half of the race. After the race, Hwang Sun-woo said, “I prepared hard for the past 3 years, but I am disappointed that the result was unexpected. I still don’t know why my pace dropped in the second half,” and “I will focus on getting good results in the remaining 800m relay and 400m medley relay.”
Kim Woo-min (23), who raced in the first group of the semifinals with Hwang Seon-woo, also failed to advance to the finals, finishing in 12th place overall with a time of 1 minute 46.58 seconds. 안전놀이터
